Abdet is a small village located in the beautiful Guadalest Valley. This valley is part of the Costa Blanca region in the Valencian Community, Spain. Abdet is like a tiny part of a bigger town called Confrides.

History of Abdet

The people who first lived in Abdet were mostly of Arab background. In the year 1264, King James I gave the village to a person named Vidal de Sarrià. Later, two important families, Cardona and Ariza, were in charge of Abdet.

In 1526, many people in Abdet who were Muslim stood up against an order from King Charles I. This order told them they had to change their religion. There were more fights until 1609. At that time, many people left Abdet and went to live in the mountains of the Valley of Laguart. Only about 12 houses stayed lived in.

Later, more people came to live in Abdet. By the 1700s, there were 25 houses in the village. If you counted Abdet and Confrides together, they had 822 people. In more recent times, the number of people living in Abdet has gone down. For example, between 1960 and 1970, the population dropped by 17%. Since 1960, the number of people has gone down by half.

Fun Celebrations

Abdet has special parties called Fiestas. They celebrate one Fiesta around Easter time. They also have another big celebration during the month of August. These are fun times for the village!

Abdet offers wonderful views of the valley around it. It is a great place to start if you enjoy walking or climbing in nature. The village also has a special place called The Barranco de Meli. This is a canyon where people go for exciting trips. You need ropes to go through this canyon safely.

Abdet's Sports Court

Abdet has a very old sports court called a "trinquet." This court is used for a traditional sport from the Valencian region called pilota. The trinquet in Abdet was built in 1772, making it one of the oldest in the area. It is actually used for a slightly different version of the game, called "galotxetes."
