Abdi Hasan Awale is a Somali politician. He is also known as Abdi Qeybdiid. He was born in 1948.
Mr. Awale was an important member of the Somali National Alliance in the 1990s. An important meeting at his home was targeted in July 1993. Later, he became the chief of police for both the country and the city of Mogadishu.
In the mid-2000s, he was a leader in a group that worked to bring peace and fight against certain groups. He then became the Commissioner of Police for the Transitional Federal Government. This happened when Ethiopian troops were in the area.
In 2012, he was chosen as the President of Galmudug state. He held this important job until 2015.

Abdi Hasan Awale was born in 1948. His birthplace was Galkacyo, a city in Somalia. He belongs to the Sacad sub-clan. This is a part of the larger Habar Gedir clans.
Political Journey
Abdi Hasan Awale became well-known in 1993. He served as an interior minister for a group led by Mohammed Farrah Aidid. This group had disagreements with UN forces during a time of "nation-building."
By 2001, he was the chief of police in Mogadishu. This was part of the new Transitional National Government.
In 2006, he was involved in a conflict in Mogadishu. He fought with a group called the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism. They were fighting against the Islamic Courts Union. His group surrendered on July 11, 2006.
Mr. Awale decided to leave the alliance in June 2006. He said that the fighting had caused many deaths. He wanted to give peace a chance. In December 2006, he led a battle for the Transitional Federal Government. Ethiopian troops supported his efforts.
On January 1, 2007, he returned to Mogadishu. He asked everyone to avoid revenge against the defeated groups.
On August 1, 2012, he was elected president. He became the leader of Galmudug state. This is a region in Somalia that has some self-governance.
