Abdoulaye Méïté, born on October 6, 1980, is a former professional footballer from Ivory Coast. He played as a strong defender. He proudly represented his country, Ivory Coast, in 48 international matches.
Abdoulaye Méïté's Club Journey
Starting at Red Star 93
Abdoulaye Méïté began his football journey at a young age. He joined Red Star 93, a team in Paris, in 1998. This club played in Division 2 at the time. After playing 28 games for Red Star, he moved to a bigger club.
Time at Olympique de Marseille
In July 2000, Méïté joined Marseille. This was a big step in his career. He played in 172 league games for Marseille. He also played in many European competitions. One of these games was against Bolton in January 2006. He even started in the final match of the 2004 UEFA Cup Final with Marseille.
Playing for Bolton Wanderers
Méïté moved to Bolton Wanderers in July 2006. He scored two goals during his time there. One goal was in an FA Cup game against Arsenal in February 2007. The other goal came in a UEFA Cup match against ZFK Rabotnički Kometal in September 2007.
Méïté played 56 games for Bolton. He was a key player for two years. He missed only a few league games. Some of these were when he played for Ivory Coast in the African Nations Cup.
Moving to West Bromwich Albion
In August 2008, Méïté signed with West Bromwich Albion. He made his first appearance for them in a game against Arsenal. His first season was tough due to injuries. He played in 18 games that year.
In the 2009–10 season, he became a very important player. He helped the team's defense become much stronger. West Bromwich Albion earned promotion to the Premier League that season. Méïté played 20 games during this successful period. He was released by West Bromwich Albion in May 2011.
Dijon FCO and FC Honka
On June 30, 2011, Méïté joined Ligue 1 team Dijon FCO. He played 25 games for them. After Dijon was moved down to Ligue 2, Méïté left the club.
In March 2013, he moved to Finland. He signed with Veikkausliiga team FC Honka. He played 25 games there. He was even named the Veikkausliiga Player of the Month in August 2013.
Doncaster Rovers and Ross County
In January 2014, Méïté signed with Doncaster Rovers. He played 16 games for them. In February 2015, he joined Ross County in Scotland. He was one of 14 players who left Ross County at the end of that season.
Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho and Newport County
In February 2016, Méïté returned to Finland. He signed a one-year contract with Veikkausliiga team SJK. He played 18 games for them. He left SJK in August 2016.
In November 2016, Méïté joined Welsh team Newport County. He made his debut the next day. He played 4 games for Newport County before leaving in January 2017.
Final Club: FC Lusitanos
In November 2017, Abdoulaye Méïté signed with FC Lusitanos in Andorra. He played one game for them before ending his professional career.
