Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed was born on July 1, 1952. He is a politician from Djibouti who has been the Prime Minister of Djibouti since 2013. He is a long-time member of the ruling People's Rally for Progress party. Before becoming Prime Minister, he served as the Minister of Agriculture from 2005 to 2011. He was also the Minister of Defense from 2011 to 2013.
About His Life
Mohamed was born in 1952 in a place called Souali. This town is in the northern Obock area of what is now Djibouti.
He went to college in France at the University of Limoges. There, he earned a special degree in technical sciences. His studies focused on how to manage water and protect the environment.
His Career
Early Career and Politics
Mohamed started his career working for Djibouti's water authority. This organization later became known as ONED. He worked as the temporary Director General from 1978 to 1979. Then, he became the full Director General from 1983 until 2005.
In 1981, Mohamed joined a political group called the People's Rally for Progress (RPP) party. He slowly moved up in the party. In September 2012, he was chosen as the RPP Vice-President. Later, in November 2012, he became the president of another group called the Union for a Presidential Majority (UMP).
From May 2005 to May 2011, Mohamed worked in the government of Djibouti. He was the Minister of Agriculture during this time. After that, in May 2011, he was named the Minister of Defense.
Mohamed also served as a Deputy in the National Assembly. This means he was an elected representative. He was re-elected to this position on February 22, 2013. This happened after his party, the UMP, won many seats in the parliament.
Becoming Prime Minister
On March 1, 2013, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed was chosen to be the Prime Minister of Djibouti. He took over the job on April 1, 2013. He replaced Dileita Mohamed Dileita, who had been Prime Minister for a long time.
