About Abe Manley
Abe Manley was born in Hertford, North Carolina. His birthday was December 22, 1885.
He met his wife, Effa, at a New York Yankees baseball game in 1935. He soon asked her to help him run his baseball team.
In 1936, Manley bought two teams: the Brooklyn Eagles and the Newark Dodgers. He combined them to create the Newark Eagles. He was a very involved owner. He also worked as a vice president and treasurer for the Negro National League. He even managed the Eagles team in 1936 and 1938.

His Baseball Legacy
Abe Manley was one of 94 people from the Negro Leagues considered for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. He was not chosen at that time. However, his wife, Effa Manley, made history. She became the first woman to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
