Abell is a small, unincorporated community located in St. Mary's County, Maryland, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Abell's History
For many years, from the late 1800s until about the 1950s, Abell was a busy place. It was a hub for many fishermen and farmers. The community was well-known for its important ports.
Deep Water Access
Abell was special because it had deep water access. This made it easy for large steamboats to move around. These boats were important for trade and travel back then.
Ports and Storms
Many of Abell's ports were very active. However, over time, some of these ports were damaged. Strong storms and hurricanes caused them to be torn down.
