Abhijeet Gupta was born on October 16, 1989, in India. He is a very talented chess player. He holds the highest title in chess, which is Grandmaster (GM).
Abhijeet Gupta made history by being the first player to win the Commonwealth Chess Championship five times. Before becoming a professional chess player, he went to A's Steward Senior Secondary School in Bhilwara.

Abhijeet Gupta's Chess Journey
Abhijeet Gupta worked hard to become a Grandmaster. To get this title, players need to achieve certain high-level performances called "norms." He earned his norms at tournaments in Andorra in 2006, New Delhi in 2007, and Balaguer in 2007.
Winning the World Junior Chess Championship
On August 15, 2008, Abhijeet Gupta won a very important tournament: the World Junior Chess Championship. This event took place in Gaziantep, Turkey. He beat many strong young players from around the world.
He was the third Indian player ever to win this big championship. The other two famous Indian winners were Viswanathan Anand and Pentala Harikrishna.
Major Tournament Wins
After becoming a Grandmaster, Abhijeet Gupta continued to win many tournaments. In 2008, the same year he won the World Junior Championship, he also won the 6th Parsvnath Open in New Delhi.
In 2011, he took first place in the 13th Dubai Open Chess Championship. He also won the Indian National Premier Chess Championship that year.
In 2013, Gupta won the Commonwealth Chess Championship for the first time. He also won the Al Ain Chess Classic tournament. For his great achievements, he received the Arjuna award. This is a special award given by the Indian government to athletes.
More Victories and Recognition
Abhijeet Gupta kept up his winning streak. In May 2014, he won the 8th Georgy Agzamov Memorial tournament in Tashkent.
He won the Commonwealth Championship again in 2015. Later that year, he also won the Hoogeveen Open. In 2016, Gupta won the Reykjavik Open and his third Commonwealth Championship title in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. In 2020, Gupta won the 8th Delhi International Open with a score of 8.5 out of 10 points.
Playing for India
Abhijeet Gupta has also represented his country, India, in team events. He played for the Indian national team in the 2012 Chess Olympiad. This big chess event happened in Istanbul, Turkey. He played very well and earned an individual silver medal. His performance rating was 2746 on board 4, which is a very high level of play.
