Abhijeet Gupta (born October 16, 1989) is a famous Indian chess player. He holds the highest title in chess, called Grandmaster (GM). He is known for being the first player to win the Commonwealth Chess Championship five times! Before becoming a professional chess player, he went to school in Bhilwara, India.

Becoming a Chess Grandmaster
Abhijeet Gupta worked hard to earn his Grandmaster title. To become a GM, players need to achieve certain high-level results, called "norms," in big tournaments. He got these norms in 2006 and 2007 from tournaments in Andorra, New Delhi, and Balaguer. He officially became a Grandmaster in 2008.
Major Chess Wins
World Junior Chess Champion
On August 15, 2008, Abhijeet Gupta won the important World Junior Chess Championship. This big event took place in Gaziantep, Turkey. He beat many strong young players from around the world. He was the third Indian player to win this championship. Famous Indian chess legends Viswanathan Anand and Pentala Harikrishna also won it before him.
Commonwealth Chess Champion
Abhijeet Gupta has won the Commonwealth Chess Championship an amazing five times! He first won it in 2013. He won it again in 2015 and then for a third time in 2016. His other wins made him the first player ever to achieve this five times.

- In 2008, he also won the 6th Parsvnath Open in New Delhi.
- He won the 13th Dubai Open Chess Championship in 2011.
- In 2011, he also became the Indian National Premier Chess Champion.
- He won the Al Ain Chess Classic tournament in 2013.
- In 2014, he won the 8th Georgy Agzamov Memorial in Tashkent.
- He won the Hoogeveen Open in 2015.
- In 2016, he won the Reykjavik Open in Iceland.
- In 2020, he won the 8th Delhi International Open.
Playing for India
Abhijeet Gupta has also represented India in team events. He played for the Indian national team at the 2012 Chess Olympiad. This big international tournament was held in Istanbul, Turkey. He played very well and won an individual silver medal for his performance.
Awards and Recognition
In 2013, Abhijeet Gupta received the Arjuna award. This is a very special award given by the Indian government. It honors outstanding achievements in sports.
