About Abigail Lane's Art
Abigail Lane was born in Penzance, Cornwall. She studied art at Bristol Polytechnic and Goldsmiths College, University of London.
Her art often explores the idea of a "missing person." She uses clues and photos in her work. These clues act like evidence. She wants people to put together a story or event. Her art can be a bit mysterious. It makes you want to look closer. Artist Tracey Emin once said, "Abigail could show the contents of her fridge and it would be fantastic." This means her everyday work is interesting.
Early Exhibitions and Solo Shows
Abigail Lane showed her art in the Damien Hirst-curated Freeze exhibition in 1988. Other artists in this show included Gary Hume and Sarah Lucas. In 1992, Karsten Schubert gave her her first solo art show.
One of her most famous shows was 'Skin of Teeth'. This exhibition was held at The Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1995. Lane also had a solo show at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht in 1996.
Showroom Dummies
In October 2003, Abigail Lane started a design company. She called it "Showroom Dummies." She created this company with her friends Bob Pain and Brigitte Stepputtis. Their company made many different items. These included cushions, tiles, fabrics, and blankets. Lane described these items as "things I would want in my own house."
