Abington (Irish: Mainistir Uaithne, meaning monastery of Uaithne) is a historic area in Ireland. It is known as a civil parish, which is an old way of dividing land. Abington is special because it lies partly in County Tipperary and partly in County Limerick.

This area was once home to a famous writer, Sheridan Le Fanu. He lived in Abington as a child. His father was the rector, or church leader, of the Abington Anglican Church at that time.

Where is Abington Located?

Abington covers a large area of land. It measures about 32,200 acres in total. A big part of this land, about 12,290 acres, is in County Tipperary.

The rest of the land, about 19,280 acres, is in County Limerick. A small part of the Limerick section, about 708 acres, is near Limerick city. The village and specific area called the townland of Abington are found in the County Limerick part of the parish.
