Abner is a small place in Kaufman County, Texas. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Abner is also located near the big cities of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
History of Abner
Abner has an interesting past. It was first known as Johnson's Point. This name came from Abner Johnson. He settled here in the 1840s. Before that, he guided a keelboat on the Trinity River.
A post office opened in Johnson's Point in 1871. But it only stayed open for two years. Mail service then moved to Terrell.
The community changed its name to Abner in 1885. A new post office opened under this name. It stayed open until 1903. After that, mail for Abner was sent from Kaufman.
In 1890, Abner had 25 people living there. It also had a barber, two doctors, and a general store. Six years later, ten more people moved to Abner.

Abner is located in the eastern part of Kaufman County. You can find it on Farm to Market Road 2727. It is about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Kaufman.
Schools in Abner
Abner's first school district was called Johnson's Point. It was started in 1885. The Kaufman County Commissioner's Court created it. In 1949, this school district joined the Kaufman Independent School District.
