Acacia aemula is a special type of shrub. It belongs to a large group of plants called Acacias. This plant grows naturally along the southern coast of Western Australia.

What Does Acacia aemula Look Like?

This shrub usually grows close to the ground. It can be anywhere from about 0.2 to 0.4 meters (which is about 8 to 16 inches) tall. It has branches that spread out and look a bit like rushes. In May and June, you can see its pretty white or cream-colored flowers.

Naming and Classifying Acacia aemula

A botanist named Bruce Maslin first officially described this plant in 1995. He wrote about it in a science journal called Nuytsia. Later, another scientist, Leslie Pedley, gave it a different name, Racosperma aemulum, in 2003. But by 2006, it was put back into the Acacia group.

Scientists recognize two slightly different types of this plant:

  • Acacia aemula subsp. aemula
  • Acacia aemula subsp. muricata
