Occurrence data from AVH

Acacia aprepta is a type of Acacia tree. It is found naturally in eastern Australia. This tree is also known as a wattle.

What it Looks Like

This tree can grow quite tall, reaching up to 10 m (33 ft) (about 33 feet). It often has branches that spread out wide.

Bark and Branches

The bark of the Acacia aprepta is dark grey or black. It has long grooves running down its trunk. Its smaller branches are light brown to grey. They are smooth and can sometimes feel a bit sticky.

Special Leaves (Phyllodes)

Like many wattle trees, Acacia aprepta does not have true leaves. Instead, it has special leaf-like parts called phyllodes. These phyllodes are long and flat. They can be straight or slightly curved. They are usually olive-green and measure about 3.5 to 8.5 cm (1.4 to 3.3 in) long and 3 to 8 mm (0.12 to 0.31 in) wide. Each phyllode has one to three clear lines, or veins, running along it.

Flowers and Seed Pods

Acacia aprepta blooms between October and January. It produces flower-spikes that grow in groups of one to three. These spikes are 0.6 to 3.5 cm (0.24 to 1.38 in) long. After the flowers, light brown seed pods appear. These pods are flat and shaped like a narrow rectangle. They are raised over the seeds inside. The pods are 2.5 to 6 cm (0.98 to 2.36 in) long and 5 to 9 mm (0.20 to 0.35 in) wide. Inside, the seeds are dark brown and about 2.3 to 3.5 mm (0.091 to 0.138 in) long.

Where it Grows

This wattle tree has a small natural home range. It is found in south-eastern Queensland, Australia. You can see it in the western parts of the Darling Downs area. It also grows around Maranoa.

Habitat

Acacia aprepta prefers to grow in shallow, gravelly, or sandy soils. These soils are often found over sandstone rocks. It grows in scrubland areas. Sometimes, it can form thick groups of trees.
