Acacia binata is a special type of shrub. It belongs to the Acacia family, which is a large group of plants. This plant is found only in Western Australia, meaning it is endemic there.

About Acacia binata

Acacia binata is a small, bushy plant. It grows in a dense, rounded shape and spreads out.

What it Looks Like

This shrub usually grows to be about 0.25 to 1 meter (or 1 to 3 feet) tall. Its leaves are not like typical leaves; they are flat and fleshy, called phyllodes. These phyllodes are green and can be 8 to 17 millimeters long and 1 to 1.5 millimeters wide. They have three faint lines, or nerves, on them.

The plant blooms with bright yellow flowers from August to October. Its flowers grow in small, round clusters, about 3 to 3.5 millimeters across. Each cluster has between ten and twenty golden flowers.

After the flowers, black seed pods grow. These pods are often curved or twisted. They are about 3.5 centimeters long and 3 to 3.5 millimeters wide. Inside the pods are grey to grey-brown seeds. These seeds are small, about 2.5 to 3 millimeters long, and shaped like an oval.

Where it Grows

Acacia binata grows in different parts of Western Australia. You can find it in areas like the Wheatbelt, Goldfields-Esperance, and Great Southern regions.

It prefers to grow in low-lying areas and rolling plains. The plant likes rocky clay-loam soils. You can find it from places like Ongerup in the west, all the way to Mount Beaumont. Mount Beaumont is about 90 kilometers (or 56 miles) north of Esperance.
