Acacia delicatula is a special kind of shrub that belongs to the Acacia family. It's found only in certain parts of northern Australia. This plant is known for its unique features, like its small, thin leaves and pretty yellow flowers.

What is Acacia delicatula?

This shrub usually grows between 0.3 and 1.5 meters (about 1 to 5 feet) tall. It often spreads out and has branches that grow straight up or slightly upwards. Its bark has tiny cracks, and its younger branches are smooth or have a powdery look. These branches also have very small, wavy ridges.

Leaves and Flowers

Like many Acacia plants, Acacia delicatula doesn't have true leaves. Instead, it has what are called phyllodes. These are flattened leaf stalks that act like leaves. The phyllodes of Acacia delicatula are always green and smooth. They grow in small groups of two to six.

Each phyllode is very thin, like a line or a thread. They can be straight or slightly curved, measuring from 4.5 to 18 millimeters long and only 0.2 to 0.5 millimeters wide. You can barely see the veins on them.

This plant blooms between January and July. It produces simple flower clusters that appear alone or in pairs. Each flower cluster has a round shape, about 4 to 6.5 millimeters across. Inside, you'll find 34 to 38 bright yellow flowers.

Where does Acacia delicatula live?

Acacia delicatula is found naturally in two main areas of northern Australia. One area is the Kimberley region in Western Australia. The other is the "Top End" of the Northern Territory.

You can usually find this shrub growing on rocky or stony areas, like plateaus or hillsides. It often lives in areas with other shrubs or in open woodlands where Eucalyptus trees grow.
