The Acacia difficilis is a type of tree. It belongs to the large group of plants called Acacia. This tree grows naturally only in the warm, tropical areas of northern Australia.

About the Acacia difficilis Tree

This tree usually grows to be about 3.5 to 13 meters (11 to 43 feet) tall. It has bark that looks like tough fibers. The bark is grey or brown on its trunk and branches.

Its smaller branches are also grey or brown. They are almost round and can be very hairy (called pubescent). Or, they can be smooth with no hairs at all (called glabrous).

Like most Acacia trees, it doesn't have regular leaves. Instead, it has special leaf-like parts called phyllodes. These phyllodes are always green. They are long and narrow, shaped like an oval, and get thinner at the bottom. Each phyllode is about 5.5 to 14 centimeters (2 to 5.5 inches) long. They are also about 15 to 40 millimeters (0.6 to 1.6 inches) wide.

When they are young, these phyllodes are thin but tough. They look silvery-white and are covered in soft, woolly hairs. You can also see five to nine clear lines, or nerves, running along them. The tree produces bright yellow flowers. These flowers usually bloom between May and September.

Where the Tree Grows

The Acacia difficilis tree is found in several parts of northern Australia. You can see it in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It also grows in the Top End of the Northern Territory. And it is found in the north-west part of Queensland.

It is quite common in the northern areas of the Northern Territory. You can also find it on Thursday Island and Melville Island. In Western Australia, it is much rarer. There, it grows around Kununurra. It is also found near the Gulf of Carpentaria in Queensland.

This tree usually grows along creeks. It prefers sandy or gravelly soils. It is part of open woodland areas. In these places, it often grows near another tree called Eucalyptus tetrodonta.
