Acacia microcalyx is a special kind of shrub. It's part of the Acacia family, which is also known as wattles. This plant is found only in western Australia.

What Does It Look Like?

This shrub is usually quite thick and can grow to be about 1.5 to 3 metres (5 to 10 ft) tall. Its branches are stiff and point upwards, often looking straight. They are ash-grey or pale green.

Like many Acacia plants, it doesn't have regular leaves. Instead, it has what are called phyllodes. These are flattened leaf stems that act like leaves. The phyllodes are always green and are spaced out along the branches. They are long and thin, about 2 to 4 cm (0.79 to 1.57 in) long and 1 to 2 mm (0.039 to 0.079 in) wide.

The plant blooms, or flowers, from February to June. When it blooms, it produces pretty cream-colored flowers.

Where Does It Grow?

Acacia microcalyx grows naturally in the Mid West and Goldfields-Esperance areas of Western Australia. You can often find it on flat areas that get flooded, or on stony plains. It likes to grow in sandy, loamy, or clay soils.

Most of these plants are found around Shark Bay. However, they can also be seen further east, near Mount Magnet in the northeast and Belele Station in the southeast. This shrub often grows with other Acacia plants, forming scrubland. It can also be found alongside plants like Atriplex or Tecticornia.
