The Acacia rostellata is a type of shrub. It belongs to the Acacia plant family, which is also known as wattle. This particular plant is found only in the southwestern part of Australia. When a plant or animal is found only in one specific area, it is called endemic.

About the Acacia rostellata Shrub

This small, spreading shrub usually grows between 0.1 and 0.5 meters (about 4 inches to 1.6 feet) tall. It often has many branches. Its small branches are prickly and covered in tiny hairs.

What are Phyllodes?

Like most Acacia plants, the Acacia rostellata does not have true leaves. Instead, it has special leaf-like structures called phyllodes. These phyllodes are evergreen, meaning they stay green all year. They are also hairy and have a unique, somewhat triangular shape. Each phyllode is about 3 to 6 millimeters long and 2 to 4 millimeters wide. They have a clear main vein running through them.

Flowers of Acacia rostellata

The Acacia rostellata blooms from August to November. During this time, it produces pretty green-yellow flowers.

Where Acacia rostellata Grows

This shrub is native to several regions in Western Australia. These areas include the Wheatbelt, Goldfields-Esperance, and Great Southern regions.

Preferred Soil and Habitat

You can find Acacia rostellata growing in different types of soil. It likes sand, sandy gravel, or clay soils. It is often found scattered across these regions. For example, it grows from around Bruce Rock in the north. It can be found as far south as Ongerup. To the east, it reaches areas like Lake King and Speddingup.

Plant Communities

The Acacia rostellata usually grows as part of the undergrowth in certain plant communities. It is often found in open areas where Eucalyptus trees grow. These areas are sometimes called heath scrubland.
