Akademio de Esperanto facts for kids
The Akademio de Esperanto (which means Academy of Esperanto in English, often shortened to AdE) is a special group of people who speak Esperanto. Their main job is to help the Esperanto language grow and stay consistent. They make sure it follows the original rules set out in the Fundamento de Esperanto and the Declaration of Boulogne.
This Academy is a bit like the French Academy (Académie française) or the Spanish Royal Academy (Real Academia Española), which do similar things for their languages. The idea for the Akademio came from L. L. Zamenhof, who created Esperanto. He suggested it at the very first World Esperanto Congress. It was first called the Lingva Komitato (Language Committee). This committee also had a "superior commission" which was called the Akademio. In 1948, the Language Committee and the Academy joined together to form the Akademio de Esperanto we know today.
The Akademio has 45 members. It also has a president, vice presidents, and a secretary who lead the group. Sometimes, they also choose "Correspondents." These are important people who can't always join the Academy's meetings but still want to support its work. The Academy gets its money from the Universal Esperanto Association and from donations.
Who Are the Members?
