About Acadiana Mall
A Look at the Stores
Over the years, the stores at Acadiana Mall have changed. For example, the JCPenney store was built in 1990 where an old store called Selber Brothers used to be. The Dillard's store was once known as D. H. Holmes.
The Macy's store has an interesting history too! It first opened as Goudchaux's/Maison Blanche. Then, in 1998, it was sold and became Parisian. In 2001, Parisian changed to Foley's. Finally, in 2006, it became the Macy's store we know today.
There used to be a Sears store at the mall. It closed in September 2017, leaving its spot empty. In 2020, there was news that JCPenney might close, but luckily, that store was taken off the closing list and remains open.
Mall Makeovers
The mall has been updated a few times to keep it looking fresh. It had a small update in the early 1990s. Then, in 2004, it got a big makeover that gave it a more modern style. On February 21, 2013, the mall officially changed its name back to Acadiana Mall.
Helping During Hurricane Katrina
In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina caused a lot of flooding, Acadiana Mall became a very important place. It was used as a meeting and starting point for a group called the Cajun Navy. This group of volunteers used their boats to rescue thousands of people who were stuck in the floodwaters. The mall helped them organize their efforts to save lives.
