Acala is a small community in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. It is an unincorporated community and a census designated place (CDP). This means it is a group of homes and businesses that is not officially a town or city. However, the government still counts its population.
Acala is located on Highway 20. It is about 34 miles (55 km) northwest of Sierra Blanca. It is also 54 miles (87 km) southeast of El Paso. In 2020, only 11 people lived there. The community got its name from "acala cotton," which is a type of cotton grown in Mexico.
Acala's History
People started settling in the Acala area in the early 1900s. A post office was opened there in 1925. By 1929, the number of people living in Acala had doubled to 100. Just a few years before, only 50 people lived there.
The population reached 100 again in the late 1950s. After that, the number of residents started to go down. By the 1970s, only 25 people called Acala home. In 2020, the population was 11.

Acala is part of the Fort Hancock Independent School District. Students in Acala attend schools within this district. Fort Hancock High School is the main high school for the area.
