Acapulco officially became a district on June 18, 1999. This means that on that date, it was formally recognized as its own administrative area within the larger canton.
Geography of Acapulco
Acapulco covers an area of about 111.2 square kilometers (about 43 square miles). To give you an idea, that's roughly the size of a square with sides about 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles) long. The district is located at an elevation of about 185 meters (607 feet) above sea level. This height is similar to being on the 60th floor of a tall building!
