Acritodon nephophilus is a special type of moss. It belongs to the Sematophyllaceae family. This moss is endemic to Mexico. This means it is found only in one specific place in the world.
You can only find Acritodon nephophilus in two spots. Both are in the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca mountains. These mountains are in the Oaxaca state of Mexico. This moss likes to live in warm, wet forests. These are often called subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
Why This Moss Needs Help
This moss is in danger. Its natural habitat is shrinking. This is called habitat loss. It happens when forests are cut down or changed. This makes it hard for the moss to survive.
People are trying to protect this moss. But it is difficult. There is not enough attention or laws to help save moss species. This makes it harder to protect the places where Acritodon nephophilus lives.
