The Story of Act II Popcorn
How Act II Began
Act I popcorn first came out in 1981. A few years later, in 1984, Act II was released. This new popcorn was special because it could sit on a shelf without needing a refrigerator. This made Act II the very first widely sold microwave popcorn.
The Special Popcorn Bag
The unique bag used for Act II popcorn was invented by James Watkins. He used to be an engineer for the Pillsbury Company. Later, he started his own company called Golden Valley Microwave Foods.
Where Act II Popcorn is Made
Original Manufacturing Plant
Act II popcorn was first made by Golden Valley Microwave Foods. This company was often called GVMF on the popcorn packages. Their main factory was in Edina, Minnesota.
Changes in Ownership and Production
In 1991, a larger company called ConAgra Foods bought Golden Valley Microwave Foods. After this, the factory in Edina was closed. The making of Act II popcorn moved to other factories in the United States and Mexico.
