Adèle Naudé Santos is an architect and urban designer from South Africa. She designs buildings and city spaces. She cares about creating homes for everyone, especially those who don't have much money. She also designs buildings for schools and universities.

She leads her own architecture firm, Santos Prescott and Associates. They have offices in San Francisco and Somerville, Massachusetts. From 2003 to 2014, she was the head of the School of Architecture and Planning at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1996, she became a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. This is a special honor for architects.

Adèle's Early Life and Education

Adèle Naudé Santos was born in South Africa. She studied architecture at the University of Cape Town and the Architectural Association in London. She also earned advanced degrees from Harvard Graduate School of Design and the University of Pennsylvania.

Early in her career, she helped design Euston Station in London. She also worked on a project to build homes for people with lower incomes in Paris. She was a project architect for Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada.

Teaching and Research

Adèle Naudé Santos has taught at many famous universities. These include MIT School of Architecture and Planning, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Rice University, University of California Berkeley, and the University of Pennsylvania. She was also the first Dean (leader) of the new School of Architecture at the University of California San Diego.

In 2013, she helped create an important partnership. It linked MIT's Center for Advanced Urbanism with the American Institute of Architects. This partnership helps connect building design with public health through research.
