The Ada Pennsylvania Station is an old train station in Ada, Ohio, United States. It was built a long time ago, in 1887, by a company called the Pennsylvania Railroad. This station is very special because it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important building that should be protected.
The station is made of wood and sits on a strong stone base. Its roof is covered with asphalt. Next to the station, there's a special park called the Railroad Park. It even has an old Pennsylvania Railroad caboose, which is the last car on a freight train!
Why Was the Ada Station Built?
Ada became a town because of the railroad. It was a "railway town," meaning it grew up around the train tracks. In the 1880s, Ohio Northern University was started in Ada. This brought many more people to the town.
Because more people were coming and going, a bigger train station was needed. So, this station was built to handle all the extra passengers.
What Makes the Station Special?
The Ada station has a unique design style called Stick-Eastlake architecture. This style was popular in the late 1800s. It's unusual for train stations built by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Most of their stations looked different.
Also, this station is bigger than most others built for small towns. Its size and special design show how important Ada was becoming.
