Adam Reynolds (born 10 July 1990) is an Australian professional rugby league player. He is the captain and plays as a halfback (halfback) for the Brisbane Broncos in the National Rugby League (NRL).

Reynolds has also played for important representative teams. These include the NRL All Stars, City New South Wales, Prime Minister's XIII, World All Stars, and New South Wales. He was a key player for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, even captaining them. He helped the South Sydney team win the 2014 NRL Grand Final.

Adam Reynolds' Early Life

Adam Reynolds was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He went to Matraville Sports High School. When he was a kid, his favourite players were Andrew Johns, Matthew Johns, and Darren Lockyer. He also admired Nathan Merritt from South Sydney.

Adam shared that his brother was a big inspiration for him. His brother always encouraged him to work harder and be his best. In 2007, Adam was part of the Matraville Sports High School team. They won the NRL Schoolboy Cup by beating Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown. Adam even won the Peter Sterling Medal for being the best player in that competition.

Adam Reynolds' Rugby League Journey

Starting Out in Rugby League

Adam Reynolds started playing junior rugby league for several local clubs. These included St Peters JRLFC, Alexandria Rovers, La Perouse Panthers, and Kensington United. They all played in the South Sydney Juniors competition.

In 2007, he played for the New South Wales under-17s team. By 2009, Reynolds joined the Rabbitohs' Under-20s team. In the 2010 Toyota Cup season, he was a top player for South Sydney. His team even reached the Grand Final. During his U20s career, Reynolds played 46 games. He scored 21 tries and kicked 159 goals, earning 402 points.

In 2011, before the season started, he got a serious knee injury. This injury, called an Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, meant he couldn't play that year.

Making His NRL Debut (2012)

After another player, Chris Sandow, left the team, Adam Reynolds joined the South Sydney NRL squad in 2012.

In Round 1 of the 2012 NRL season, Reynolds played his first NRL game. He played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs against the Sydney Roosters as a halfback. He kicked 4 goals, but the Rabbitohs lost 24–20.

In Round 11, against the St George Illawarra Dragons, Reynolds scored his first NRL try. He also kicked a field goal to win the game for South Sydney 19–18 in extra time. In August 2012, Reynolds signed a new three-year contract with South Sydney.

At the end of the 2012 Dally M Awards season, he was named the NRL's Rookie of the Year. Reynolds also kicked the most goals in the NRL that season, with 97. He won several awards at the South Sydney Red and Green Ball in 2012. These included the John Sattler Rookie of the Year. In his first NRL season, Reynolds played in all 27 matches for South Sydney. He scored 3 tries, kicked 97 goals, and 2 field goals.

Playing for All-Stars and City (2013)

On 13 February 2013, Reynolds was chosen to play for the NRL All Stars team. He played as a halfback and kicked a goal. His team lost 32–6 to the Indigenous All Stars.

On 21 April 2013, Reynolds played his first game for NSW City Origin. He scored a try and kicked 2 goals. His team lost 18–12 against NSW Country Origin.

The 2013 NRL season was also very successful for Reynolds. He was great at goal kicking and playing as a halfback. With teammates like John Sutton, Issac Luke, Greg Inglis, and Nathan Merritt, he helped Souths finish second.

Their finals journey started well, with South Sydney beating the Melbourne Storm 20–10. However, they lost in the preliminary finals 30–20 to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. This meant they missed the Grand Final for the second year in a row. Reynolds played in all 26 matches for the Rabbitohs. He scored 4 tries, kicked 100 goals, and 2 field goals.

Grand Final Glory (2014)

On 4 May 2014, Reynolds was chosen to play for NSW City again. He played at halfback and kicked 3 goals in a 26-all draw. On 5 October 2014, Reynolds played in the 2014 NRL Grand Final. His team, South Sydney, played against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. Reynolds played at halfback, scored a try, and kicked 5 goals. Souths won the game 30–6, winning the premiership!

Reynolds had a strong year for South Sydney in the 2014 NRL season. He played 26 matches, scored 7 tries, kicked 95 goals, and 3 field goals.

Injuries and Comebacks (2015)

On 27 January 2015, Reynolds signed a new two-year contract. On 23 January 2015, he was part of the South Sydney Rabbitohs team that won the 2015 NRL Auckland Nines tournament. Reynolds was even named the Player of the Tournament.

In Round 5, against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Reynolds got a knee injury. He returned early in Round 9 against the St. George Illawarra Dragons. He helped South Sydney win 16–10, ending their three-match losing streak. However, he then suffered a thumb injury. Reynolds made another early comeback from injury in Round 14.

Reynolds finished the 2015 NRL season as South Sydney's top point scorer. He scored a try, kicked 53 goals, and a field goal in 18 matches. On 26 September 2015, Reynolds played for the Prime Minister's XIII against Papua New Guinea. He kicked 2 goals in the 40–12 win.

State of Origin Debut (2016)

On 13 January 2016, Reynolds was named in the developing New South Wales Blues squad. On 2 February 2016, Reynolds was chosen to play for the World All Stars. In the match on 13 February 2016, Reynolds kicked 2 goals. The World All Stars beat the Indigenous All Stars 12–8.

Reynolds made his State of Origin debut for New South Wales in Game I of the 2016 series. He also played in the second game of the 2016 State of Origin series. Queensland defeated New South Wales 26–16. Reynolds was unable to play in the final game due to injury. At his club, Reynolds played 16 games for Souths in the 2016 NRL season. This was the first time since 2012 that Souths did not make the finals.

A Strong Season (2017)

Even though Souths missed the finals for the second year in a row, Reynolds had a good season. He played in 21 games for the club. Reynolds was not chosen for the New South Wales Origin team that year. One of his best skills that season was his goal kicking. Reynolds finished the year with a very high goal kicking success rate of 88.16%.

Kicking Field Goals (2018)

In 2018, Reynolds was part of the South Sydney team that finished third in the regular season. In the finals, Reynolds kicked 3 field goals in one game. This included one in the last minute, helping Souths beat St George 13–12. This was the first time a player had kicked 3 field goals in a match since 1997.

In the preliminary final against the Sydney Roosters, Reynolds kicked two penalty goals. However, Souths lost 12–4 and missed out on the Grand Final.

Leading the Rabbitohs (2019)

Reynolds started the 2019 NRL season in great form. Souths won 10 of their first 11 games. Reynolds' good play meant he was considered for the New South Wales Origin team. In Round 11, Reynolds scored a try and kicked 3 goals. He had to leave the field with a leg injury, but it wasn't serious. However, he was not picked for Origin.

In Round 17 against Manly-Warringah, Reynolds kicked a field goal in the last few minutes. South Sydney won 21–20, ending a four-game losing streak. South Sydney finished the 2019 regular season in third place and made the finals. Reynolds played in all three of South Sydney's finals matches. The club reached the preliminary final again but lost to Canberra 16–10.

Captaining South Sydney (2020)

On 25 February, Adam Reynolds was announced as the new captain of South Sydney. Reynolds told the media how special it was for him. He said he grew up near Redfern Oval and always dreamed of playing for Souths. Becoming captain was an amazing moment for him.

In Round 14, Reynolds scored a try, kicked five goals, and a last-minute field goal. South Sydney beat North Queensland 31–30. In Round 15, Reynolds kicked nine goals out of nine attempts. South Sydney won against Manly-Warringah 56–16. In Round 20, he kicked ten goals in South Sydney's big 60–8 win over the Sydney Roosters.

Reynolds played 23 games that year. The club reached their third preliminary final in a row but lost to Penrith 20–16. He also finished as the top point scorer in the competition with 221 points.

Breaking Records and Moving On (2021)

In Round 4 of the 2021 NRL season, Reynolds scored a try and kicked seven goals. South Sydney won 38–0 against Canterbury-Bankstown. In Round 5 against Brisbane, he kicked the first two-point field goal since 1970. This new scoring option was brought back by the NRL. It gives 2 points for a field goal kicked from behind the 40-metre line.

In Round 8 against Canberra, he kicked seven goals from seven attempts. South Sydney won the match 34–20. On 2 May, it was announced that Reynolds had a thumb injury. He missed one match because of it.

On May 12, after much talk about his future, it was announced that Reynolds would leave Souths. He signed a three-year deal with Brisbane starting in 2022. In Round 16, Reynolds broke Eric Simms' record at South Sydney for most goals kicked. This happened in the club's 38–22 win over Wests Tigers.

The next week, Reynolds became South Sydney's all-time record points scorer. He passed Eric Simms as Souths defeated Parramatta 40-12. Reynolds played 25 games for South Sydney in the 2021 NRL season. He captained Souths in their 14-12 2021 NRL Grand Final loss against Penrith. With only five minutes left, Reynolds had a chance to level the scores with a conversion. He narrowly missed it. He then tried a two-point field goal in the last minute, but it fell short.

Captaining the Broncos (2022)

On 31 January, Reynolds was announced as the captain of his new team, the Brisbane Broncos. He became the 12th full-time Broncos men's captain. In Round 2 of the 2022 NRL season, Reynolds made his club debut for Brisbane. They won 16-10 against Canterbury.

In Round 9 of the 2022 NRL season, Reynolds played against his former club, South Sydney, for the first time. He led Brisbane to a 32-12 victory. Reynolds scored a try and kicked six goals in that game. Reynolds played 20 games for Brisbane that year. The club finished 9th on the table. Reynolds was Brisbane's top point scorer for the season with 146 points.

Reaching 1000 Goals (2023)

In Round 1 of the 2023 NRL season, Reynolds kicked a field goal for Brisbane. This helped them win 13–12 against the back-to-back premiers Penrith. In Round 11, Reynolds had to leave the field early after hitting his head.

In Round 24, Reynolds made history by kicking his 1000th goal in Australian rugby league. This happened during Brisbane's 54–10 win over Parramatta. Reynolds played 23 matches for Brisbane in the 2023 NRL season. He played in Brisbane's 26–24 loss against Penrith in the 2023 NRL Grand Final.

A Challenging Year (2024)

In 2024, Reynolds faced some challenges. Ahead of Brisbane's Round 3 game, Reynolds was ruled out with a knee injury. In Round 5 against Melbourne, he had to leave the field with a hamstring issue. In Round 9, Reynolds suffered a torn bicep. This injury meant he would be out of play for several months.

Reynolds played only 13 games for Brisbane in the 2024 NRL season. The club finished 12th on the table and missed the finals.
