Adam Silvera grew up in the South Bronx area of New York City. His mother, Persi Rosa, is of Puerto Rican background and works as a social worker. Adam started writing stories when he was about 10 or 11 years old. He began by writing fan fiction, which means he wrote new stories using characters from existing books or shows.

Before becoming a published author, Adam worked in different jobs. He was a barista, making coffee drinks, and a bookseller, helping people find books. His Books and Their Themes

Adam Silvera's first novel, More Happy Than Not, came out on June 2, 2015. This book became a New York Times best seller. It was also nominated for an award called the Lambda Literary Award. The story is about a young boy named Aaron Soto who lives in the Bronx. After a sad event in his family, Aaron spends time with a boy named Thomas. Aaron feels confused by his feelings for Thomas.
