This crusade was led by Lord Edward, who later became King Edward I of England.

Who Was Adam of Kilconquhar?

Adam of Kilconquhar belonged to the important Clan MacDuff family. His family lived in Kilconquhar, a place in south-east Fife. This area was the main home for his family's lands. His family was well-known and connected to other powerful Scottish families, like the Comyns.

Marriage and Crusades

Adam was well-liked by the Scottish king, King Alexander III. He married Marjorie, who was the daughter and heir of Neil, Earl of Carrick. Because of this marriage, Adam could use the title of earl.

Adam and Marjorie had a daughter named Martha. Martha later became the mother of Thomas Randolph. Thomas Randolph was a very close friend and fighter for Robert the Bruce, a famous Scottish king.

Adam died in Acre in the year 1271. He was there because he was on a crusade. A crusade was a religious military journey.

Adam's Journey on Crusade

Adam was part of a small group of Scottish fighters. They joined the Eighth Crusade in 1270. This group attacked a city called Tunis. Another Scottish noble, David, Earl of Atholl, died during this attack.

Adam survived the attack on Tunis. He and the other fighters then went to Sicily for the winter. The next spring, they joined the army of Lord Edward. They traveled to Acre, which is in modern-day Israel. Sadly, Adam became sick there and died in 1271.

After Adam's death, his wife Marjorie married again. She married Robert de Brus, 6th Lord of Annandale, who had also been on the crusade with Adam.
