He served as the temporary Prime Minister of Greece from 1973 to 1974. He was appointed during a time when the military was in charge of the country. About Adamantios Androutsopoulos

Early Life and Education

Adamantios Androutsopoulos was born in a place called Psari, in Messenia, Greece, in 1919. He studied law at the University of Athens. He also attended the University of Chicago for some time. However, he did not complete his degree there.

Role in the Military Government

From 1967 to 1974, Greece was under a military dictatorship. This means the country was ruled by military leaders, not by elected officials. During this period, Adamantios Androutsopoulos held important positions.

He was the Finance Minister from April 1967 to August 1971. This role involved managing the country's money and economy. Later, he became the Minister for the Interior from August 1971 to May 1973. This job involved overseeing public administration and local government.

Becoming Prime Minister

In 1973, the military leader Georgios Papadopoulos was removed from power. Another strong military figure, Dimitrios Ioannides, took control. Ioannides then appointed Androutsopoulos as the Head of Government. He served as Prime Minister from November 1973 to July 1974. During this time, he also continued to serve as Finance Minister.

His time as Prime Minister ended in July 1974. This was when Greece returned to a democratic government. This period is known as the Metapolitefsi, which means a change in political system. It marked the end of military rule and the return of elected leaders.
