The Adams Gristmill Warehouse is a historic building in Bellows Falls, Vermont. It stands on Bridge Street. Built around 1925, it was used by Frank Adams & Co. This company ran the Adams Gristmill. The warehouse is a great example of an old industrial building. It was important for storing goods that came by train. In 1990, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is a special place worth protecting.

What is the Adams Gristmill Warehouse?

The Adams Gristmill Warehouse is on the north side of Bridge Street. It is located on an island. This island is formed by the Connecticut River and the Bellows Falls Canal. The building has one story and a sloped roof. It is shaped like a rectangle. Its longest side points away from the road.

How Does the Warehouse Look?

The land around the warehouse slopes. Because of this, only its east and south sides are fully visible. These sides are covered with wood siding. The shorter north and west walls are made of concrete blocks. The east side is the main part of the building. It has six large openings. These were used as entrances for freight.

The Warehouse's Past Life

The warehouse was built around 1925. It belonged to Frank Adams & Co. This company operated the Adams Gristmill. The mill is now home to the Bellows Falls Historical Society Museum. The warehouse had its own railroad track. This track is no longer used and is now paved over.

The warehouse was used to store flour and grain. These were important products from the mill. The mill stopped working in the 1960s. Since then, the warehouse has been used for other industrial purposes. It continues to be a part of the town's working history.
