Adams is an old train station building located at 10 Pleasant Street in Adams, Massachusetts. It was built a long time ago, in 1899. For many years, it was the main train station for the town, serving trains on the North Adams Branch of the Boston and Albany Railroad. The buildings that are still standing were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Today, the old station building is used as a sports bar and restaurant.

What Does the Adams Station Look Like?
The old Adams Passenger Station and Baggage & Express House are just east of the main part of Adams. They are on the west side of Pleasant Street. These two buildings are lined up with the old railroad tracks. These tracks are now the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, a path for walking and biking.
The Passenger Station Building
The passenger station is a one-story building made of brick. It has a roof that is almost flat, called a "shallow hip roof." This roof has very wide edges, known as "eaves." These eaves are held up by large supports called "brackets." All of the doors and windows on the building have a rounded top, like an arch.
The Baggage House Building
The baggage house is a simpler building. It is made of wood and has a pointed roof, called a "gabled roof." The outside of this building is covered with overlapping wooden boards, known as "clapboard." This building was used for handling luggage and packages.
A Brief History of the Adams Station
The Pittsfield and North Adams Railroad started running trains through Adams in the mid-1840s. The buildings you see today were built by that railroad between 1889 and 1894.
Railroad Changes Over Time
Eventually, this railroad became part of the Boston and Albany Railroad. Trains continued to run through Adams until the middle of the 20th century. The New York Central Railroad later rented the Boston and Albany lines. They ran trains like the Berkshire Hills Express between North Adams and New York City, stopping in Adams.
What Happened to the Station?
The passenger station building has been changed and is now used for businesses. The train tracks that used to be there have been removed. The area where the tracks once were is now paved. It has become a walking path for people to enjoy.
