Adamu Ciroma (born November 20, 1934 – died July 5, 2018) was an important Nigerian politician. He was born in Potiskum, Yobe State, into a Bole family. He served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, which is like the country's main bank. He was also a member of the People's Democratic Party.

Adamu Ciroma's Early Political Career
Working in the Second Republic (1979-1983)
In 1979, Adamu Ciroma wanted to become president. He was one of the people who tried to win the presidential vote for the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). Some people believed he was supported by a group called the "Kaduna Mafia." This was a rumored group of smart people and government workers in Kaduna.
Ciroma finished third in the party's election. Shehu Shagari won, and Maitama Sule came second. A person named Hamza Rafindadi Zayyad helped pay for some of Ciroma's campaign.
Important Roles in Government
Adamu Ciroma briefly worked as the secretary for the NPN party. Later, he held several important jobs as a minister. He was the Minister for Industries, then for Agriculture, and finally for Finance.
As a senior minister, he helped President Shagari achieve his goals. He focused on increasing food production in the country. He also worked with international groups to start projects that helped farming.
In 1983, President Shagari showed how much he trusted Ciroma. He made Ciroma the head of a special committee. This committee's job was to suggest ways to improve the government.
Adamu Ciroma's Later Political Career
Helping to Form a New Party
Adamu Ciroma was one of the people who helped start the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This party became very important in Nigerian politics.
Serving as Finance Minister (1999-2003)
From 1999 to 2003, Ciroma served as the Minister of Finance. He worked in the government led by President Olusegun Obasanjo. His wife, Maryam Ciroma, also became a leader in the PDP party.
