Addison is a small town, called a borough, located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It's part of the larger Johnstown, Pennsylvania area. In 2020, about 165 people lived there.

The town we know today as Addison was first planned out by Peter Augustine in 1818. Back then, it was called Petersburg. The very first house in Petersburg was built by Henry Stuller in 1820. That same year, John Brown opened a tavern, which is like a restaurant and inn. A schoolhouse was built around 1832, so kids could start learning. Later, in 1844, Thomas and Nathan Cooper started a foundry, which is a place where metal objects are made.

Where is Addison? Geography and Location

Addison is located at 39°44′43″N 79°19′59″W / 39.74528°N 79.33306°W / 39.74528; -79.33306. This means it's about 30 miles (48 km) west of Cumberland, Maryland and about 30 miles (48 km) east of Morgantown, West Virginia. The United States Census Bureau says that Addison is about 0.6 square miles (1.41 square kilometers) in size, and it's all land. The borough is completely surrounded by Addison Township.

A very important road called the National Road used to pass through Addison. Today, this road is known as US 40. The Petersburg Tollhouse, which was one of the buildings where people paid a fee to use the road, is now a historic landmark. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
