Adelholzener Alpenquellen GmbH is a big company in Bavaria, Germany. It's known for its natural mineral water and drinks. The company is located in a place called Bad Adelholzen, which is part of Siegsdorf. What's special about Adelholzener is that it's owned by a group of nuns, the Covenant of the Merciful Sisters of St. Vincent de Paul. They use the money made from selling drinks to help people and support good causes. Every year, Adelholzener bottles about 580 million drinks!

The History of Adelholzener

How the Spring Was Discovered

The story of the Adelholzener spring goes way back to around 280 AD. Legend says a Roman preacher named St. Primus found the healing spring in Bad Adelholzen. People believed he could heal the sick using prayer and the special water. The spring is still named after him today.

Early Days of the Spring

In the 10th century, the spring became the property of the Archbishops of Salzburg. This shows how important the spring was even a long time ago.

Selling the Water and New Owners

Adelholzener spring water was first sold in 1875. By 1895, the mineral water was being shipped all over Germany.

At the start of the 1900s, the spa business in Bad Adelholzen had problems. In 1907, a group of nuns, the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vinzenz von Pau, bought the spa and the bottling plants. They worked to make the production and office areas more modern. In 1919, they finished building the first electric bottling plant. This made bottling much faster!

After World War II

After World War II, in 1946, Bad Adelholzen was officially recognized as a spa town. This meant it was known for its healing waters.

Modern Times and New Products

In 1994, the company changed its name to Adelholzener Alpen. Two years later, they built a new warehouse and office building. In 1998, they started using a new machine to bottle drinks in reusable plastic (PET) bottles.

In 2001, Adelholzener launched a new drink called Active O2 in Germany. This was water with added oxygen. They even had their first TV commercial for it!

New Bottling Plants and Global Reach

In 2013, a new plant for bottling drinks in glass bottles was built. It could fill up to 28,000 bottles every hour! Four years later, in 2017, Adelholzener opened its seventh bottling line. This one could fill 35,000 reusable PET bottles per hour.

Today, Adelholzener sells its products in more than 20 countries. Their biggest markets are Germany and Japan. The money they earn from selling mineral water helps support charities and social organizations in Bavaria. This is part of the work done by the Covenant of the Merciful Sisters.

Adelholzener Sponsorships

Adelholzener also supports different sports and events. This is called sponsorship.

Sponsoring Formula 1 Racing

From 2003 to 2005, Adelholzener sponsored Sauber Formula 1 racing cars. Their logo was seen on the cars of famous drivers like Felipe Massa, Nick Heidfeld, and Jacques Villeneuve.

Other Sports Partnerships

Adelholzener is also an official sponsor of FC Bayern Munich, a very popular German football club. They are also a partner of the BR-Radltour, which is a big cycling event in Germany. Adelholzener provides water for all the people who take part in the cycling tour.
