Adelholzener Alpenquellen GmbH is a big company that bottles mineral water. It's located in Bad Adelholzen, a part of Siegsdorf, in Bavaria, Germany. This company is the largest mineral water producer in Bavaria! It's owned by a group called the Covenant of the Merciful Sisters of St. Vincent de Paul. Every year, they bottle about 580 million drinks.

The Story of Adelholzener Water

How the Spring Was Found

Long, long ago, around the year 280 AD, a Roman preacher named Saint Primus supposedly found the special spring in Bad Adelholzen. People say he used prayer and the water's power to help sick people. The spring's name still comes from him!

In the 10th century, the spring became the property of the archbishops of Salzburg.

Starting to Bottle Water

In 1875, Adelholzener spring water was sold for the first time. By 1895, the mineral water was being sent all over Germany.

At the start of the 1900s, the spa business in Bad Adelholzen had problems. So, in 1907, a group called the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vinzenz von Paul bought the spa and the bottling factories. They worked to make the production and offices more modern. In 1919, they finished building their first electric bottling plant.

Growing After the War

After World War II, in 1946, the area was officially recognized as a spa by the government. This was a big step!

In 1994, the company changed its name to Adelholzener Alpen. Two years later, they built a new warehouse and office building. In 1998, they started using their first bottling plant for reusable plastic bottles, called PET bottles.

In 2001, the company launched a new type of water with added oxygen, called Active O2. They even had their first TV commercial for it!

Modern Bottling Plants

In 2013, a new plant for bottling water in glass bottles was built. It could fill up to 28,000 bottles every hour! Four years later, Adelholzener opened its seventh bottling line. This one could fill 35,000 reusable PET bottles per hour.

Today, Adelholzener sells its products in more than 20 countries. Their biggest markets are Germany and Japan. The money the company earns from selling water helps support charities and social groups around Bavaria. This is part of the work of the Sisters of Mercy.

Adelholzener Sponsorships

Adelholzener has supported some cool things!

  • From 2003 to 2005, they sponsored Sauber Formula 1 race cars. Their logo was on the cars of famous drivers like Felipe Massa, Nick Heidfeld, and Jacques Villeneuve.
  • Adelholzener is also an official sponsor of the famous football club FC Bayern Munich.
  • They are a partner of the BR-Radltour, which is a big cycling event in Germany. They provide water for all the people taking part in the bike tour.
