Adhemar's Football Journey
Adhemar was a star player for a team called São Caetano. He scored 22 goals in a big tournament called the Copa João Havelange. His goals helped his team reach the final game against Vasco da Gama. Even though his goals were impressive, some of them didn't count towards the top scorer list. This was because São Caetano played in a lower division for part of the tournament.
In January 2001, Adhemar moved to Germany to play for VfB Stuttgart. He made a fantastic start, scoring three goals in his very first game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern! He played for Stuttgart for about a year and a half. During that time, he played in 39 games and scored nine goals in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league.
A Tryout with American Football?
Adhemar's incredibly powerful shots caught the eye of an American football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They invited him to try out for their team! During the tryout, he showed off his kicking skills. He managed to kick nine out of ten 50-yard field goals, which is very impressive!
The Buccaneers were so impressed that they offered Adhemar a huge contract worth millions of dollars. But Adhemar decided not to join them. This was because of some issues with getting a work permit to play in the United States.
Coming Out of Retirement
On March 2, 2012, Adhemar decided to play football again after being retired for a while. He joined a team called Serrano. He played for them in the third division of the Campeonato Carioca, a state league in Brazil.
