Adhir Kalyan is an actor from South Africa. He is well-known for playing Timmy in the TV show Rules of Engagement. He also played Awalmir Karimi, known as 'Al', in the show United States of Al.

Adhir Kalyan's Early Life

Adhir Kalyan's family comes from India. They live in South Africa. His mother, Santosh Vinita "Sandy" Kalyan, was a member of Parliament. This means she was someone who helped make laws for the country. She worked for the Democratic Alliance political party.

Adhir finished his schooling in Durban, South Africa. Before he moved away, he acted in many plays there. These included plays based on famous books like Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol. He also acted in a play based on Salman Rushdie's The Ground Beneath Her Feet. He even performed in the classic Shakespearean play Macbeth.

Adhir Kalyan's Acting Career

In 2005, Adhir Kalyan moved to London to continue his acting career. He got roles in several TV shows. He was in the BBC series Holby City (in season 8) as Arjmand Younis. He also appeared in Spooks (season 5). On the Irish TV network RTÉ One, he played Ramal Kirmani in Fair City. Adhir also acted in a few independent movies.

Kalyan later starred in an American TV show called Aliens in America. This show was about a foreign exchange student from Pakistan living with a family in Wisconsin. He also had repeating roles in the fifth season of Nip/Tuck. He became a regular actor in the third season of the CBS show Rules of Engagement. He then became a main actor in the show's fourth season.

In 2009, Adhir Kalyan was in the movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop. He played Pahud, a teenager. He also appeared in Up in the Air as an employee who lost his job. He was in the cheerleader comedy Fired Up. In 2010, he acted in Youth in Revolt. In 2011, he had a small role in No Strings Attached.

In late 2015, he started starring in the Fox science fiction crime show Second Chance.

In December 2019, Adhir Kalyan was chosen for a main role in the CBS show United States of Al. He played Awalmir Karimi, an Afghan interpreter known as "Al". The show started on April 1, 2021. Some people had concerns about the show. Critics said the show's humor and old-fashioned ideas were not good. They especially pointed out that a South African-born Indian actor was playing an Afghan character. They also mentioned that his accent did not sound real.

Adhir Kalyan's Personal Life

In March 2015, Adhir Kalyan got engaged to actress Emily Wilson. She was known for her role in General Hospital. Adhir and Emily got married on October 1, 2016. Their wedding was at Colony 29 in Palm Springs, California. They had their first child, a daughter, on March 23, 2021.
