Adhir Kalyan's family comes from India. They live in South Africa. His mother, Santosh Vinita "Sandy" Kalyan, was a member of Parliament. This means she was someone who helped make laws for the country. She worked for the Democratic Alliance political party.

Adhir finished his schooling in Durban, South Africa. Before he moved away, he acted in many plays there.
