Adhir Kalyan is an actor from South Africa. He is well-known for playing Timmy in the TV show Rules of Engagement. He also played Awalmir Karimi, known as 'Al', in the show United States of Al.

Growing Up in South Africa
Adhir Kalyan was born in Durban, South Africa. His family is of Indian South African background. His mother, Sandy Kalyan, was a member of Parliament. This means she was part of the group that makes laws for South Africa. She worked for a political group called the Democratic Alliance.
Adhir went to school in Durban. Before he moved away, he acted in many plays in South Africa. Some of these plays were based on famous books like Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. He also performed in Macbeth, a classic play by William Shakespeare.
Adhir's Acting Journey
Starting in London
In 2005, Adhir Kalyan moved to London to become an actor. He got roles in British TV shows. He was in Holby City as Arjmand Younis and in Spooks. He also appeared in the Irish show Fair City. Adhir acted in some independent movies too.
Moving to American TV and Movies
Later, Adhir starred in an American TV show called Aliens in America. In this show, he played a foreign exchange student from Pakistan. He also had roles in Nip/Tuck and Rules of Engagement. He became a main character in Rules of Engagement during its fourth season.
Adhir appeared in several movies. In 2009, he was in Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Up in the Air. He also acted in the comedy Fired Up. In 2010, he was in Youth in Revolt, and in 2011, he had a small role in No Strings Attached.
In 2015, he started starring in the science fiction crime show Second Chance on Fox.
Starring in United States of Al
In 2019, Adhir Kalyan was chosen to play Awalmir Karimi, known as "Al," in the TV show United States of Al. This show started in 2021. When the show came out, some people criticized the casting choice. They felt that an actor of South African Indian background playing an Afghan character, and using an accent that wasn't authentic, was not the best choice.
Adhir's Family Life
In March 2015, Adhir got engaged to actress Emily Wilson. She is known for her role in General Hospital. Adhir and Emily got married on October 1, 2016, in Palm Springs, California. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, on March 23, 2021.
