Adrian Younge (born in 1978) is an American musician and producer. He creates, arranges, and produces music. Adrian Younge lives and works in the Los Angeles area.
Adrian Younge's Early Life
Adrian Younge grew up in Fontana, California. His father was a lawyer. Adrian also studied law and earned a special law degree. He even worked as a lawyer for a while. He also taught law at his old college. Early in his career, he worked in the legal department for MTV.
Adrian Younge's Music Journey
Adrian Younge is a talented film editor and composer. He started his music journey playing bass and keyboards in a band in the late 1990s. He began writing his own music after experimenting with an MPC, which is a machine used to create beats and samples.
He quickly learned to play many different instruments. He loved to experiment with older ways of recording music, called analog recordings. This led to his first music project, Venice Dawn, which was an EP (a short album).
In 2009, Adrian created the music for the movie Black Dynamite. This soundtrack was released by the Wax Poetics record label. Later, in 2011, he made Venice Dawn into a longer album called Something about April.
Adrian Younge has worked with many famous artists. In 2013, he released albums with the group Delfonics and rapper Ghostface Killah. He also owns a record store in Los Angeles called Artform Studio.
Adrian Younge teamed up with Ali Shaheed Muhammad from the group A Tribe Called Quest. Together, they produced a song for Kendrick Lamar called "untitled 06". This song was later used in their own album, The Midnight Hour, released in 2018. Adrian and Ali also started their own record label in 2017, called Jazz Is Dead.
In 2021, Adrian Younge released an album called The American Negro. He also produced a podcast called "Invisible Blackness". Both of these projects came out during Black History Month. They aim to show the unfair treatment African Americans have faced in the United States. They also highlight the emotional impact of this unfairness. The podcast features important speakers like Chuck D and Keyon Harrold.
