History of the Museum

The Adventure Science Center first opened its doors in 1945. Back then, it was called the Children’s Museum of Nashville. It was started by a naturalist named John Ripley Forbes. The first location was in downtown Nashville, in a building called Lindsley Hall.

In 1952, the museum opened its very first planetarium, letting visitors explore the night sky. Later, in 1974, the museum moved to its current home. This new spot is on Old Saint Cloud Hill, which was an important place during the American Civil War because of Fort Negley.

Over the years, the museum's name changed a few times. Its most recent name change happened in November 2002, when it became the Adventure Science Center.
