Adventure game facts for kids
An adventure game is a type of video game where you mostly explore, solve puzzles, and follow a story. Some adventure games let you fight enemies, like in an action game. But many adventure games do not have any fighting at all. The very first adventure game was Colossal Cave Adventure, made in 1975.
In adventure games, you usually play as a character in the story. This character might have a background. For example, Roger Sams in Bad Mojo is a sad insect scientist. Alexander in King's Quest VI is a prince trying to save a princess. Other characters you play as might not have much of a story. In games like Myst and Zork, the game does not even give your character a name. Other characters and the game's voice might just call you "you."
Adventure games can be played on many devices. You can play them on computers like PCs and Macs. You can also play them on game consoles like PlayStations and Xboxes.

How Do You Play Adventure Games?
Many adventure games are called point-and-click adventure games. This is because you use a computer mouse to click on things on the screen. But not all adventure games work this way. In the 1996 game Bad Mojo, you can only use the computer's arrow keys. In the 1977 game Zork, you had to type commands using the keyboard to tell the game what to do.
Exploring Interesting Worlds
Because adventure games are all about exploring, they usually have a really interesting world. Some games have beautiful art with painted pictures. Others show off the newest ways to make images. For example, Myst had amazing graphics for its time. Other older games, like the first Zork games, had no pictures at all. The Zork games told you what was happening just by using words.
Famous Adventure Game Series
Some very famous adventure game series include Myst by Brøderbund. Another popular one is Monkey Island by LucasArts. The King's Quest and Quest for Glory series by Sierra On-Line are also well-known.
