Career in Business and Politics
Working in Finance
Lord Reay helped start a company called Montrose Partners, which works in corporate finance. This type of company helps other businesses manage their money and make important financial decisions.
Joining the House of Lords
In January 2019, Lord Reay became a member of the House of Lords, which is one of the two parts of the UK Parliament. He didn't become a member because he was elected by the public. Instead, he won a special kind of election called a hereditary peers' by-election.
This means he took a seat that is reserved for people whose families have held titles for many generations. In the House of Lords, he is part of the Conservative party.
Becoming Clan Chief
In 2023, a special ceremony was held to officially name Aeneas Mackay as the chief of Clan Mackay. The event took place in northern Scotland and was attended by Mackay clan members from around the world, including Canada, the U.S.A., and Germany.
The ceremony was filled with tradition. It included a blessing, poetry readings, and the reading of old documents. A storyteller, known as a seanchaidh, recited Lord Reay's family history. He was then presented with special items: a dirk (a type of dagger), a white staff, and a seal with his family crest.
Family Life
In 2010, Lord Reay married Mia Ruulio from Finland. They have three children:
- Alexander Mackay, born in 2010. He has the title Master of Reay.
- The Honourable Iona Mackay, born in 2011.
- The Honourable Harry Mackay, born in 2014.
The family lives in London and also has a home called Whittington Hall.
