Local Businesses: What's Made Here?
Afolkey is home to a big company called Berner Food & Beverage, Inc. Many people in the area call it the "Cheese Factory." This is because it used to make natural cheese. Local dairy farmers would sell their milk there.
In 2014, a sign outside the Berner plant proudly announced Afolkey as the "Aerosol Cheese Capital of the World." This means that 98% of all store-brand aerosol cheese (the kind that comes in a spray can) is made right here. Also, the popular national brand "Easy Cheese" by Mondelez is manufactured at the Berner plant in Afolkey.
Another important part of Afolkey's business is Fountain Creek Farm. This farm, owned by the Kaiser family, has been around for many decades. Since the 1930s, you could often see special Brown Swiss dairy cattle grazing near Afolkey.
