The Afon Porth-llwyd is a cool river found in Snowdonia, a beautiful national park in north-west Wales. It starts its journey high up at Llyn Eigiau lake. This lake is on the south-eastern edge of the Carneddau mountains. The river then flows down until it joins the bigger river Conwy.

About Afon Porth-llwyd

Where the River Flows

The Afon Porth-llwyd begins its path from Llyn Eigiau. This mountain lake is a great source for the river. As it flows, the river passes through lovely Welsh landscapes. Finally, it meets up with the river Conwy, which is one of Wales's main rivers.

Water for Power

A special part of the Afon Porth-llwyd's journey involves Coedty reservoir. Here, some of the river's water is collected and stored. After the reservoir, the water continues its flow. It passes under a bridge called Pont Newydd in a village called Dolgarrog.

Some of the water from Coedty reservoir is also sent to the Dolgarrog Power station. This happens through large black pipes. Water from another lake, Llyn Cowlyd, also joins this system. Together, this water helps to create electricity for people to use!
