Afrika Korps facts for kids
The German Africa Corps (also known as the Afrika Korps) was a famous German army group. It fought in Libya and Tunisia during the North African Campaign of World War II.
This army group became very well known because of its first commander, Erwin Rommel. He was a brilliant general. The Afrika Korps was a key part of larger German and Italian forces in North Africa.
The Afrika Korps fought against the Allied forces. They kept fighting until May 1943, when they surrendered. The group was mostly made up of two tank divisions, the 15th Panzer Division and the 21st Panzer Division. It also included several Italian tank and infantry divisions. The exact makeup of the Afrika Korps changed during the war.
