Agnes Mary Frances Castle (born Sweetman; around 1860 or 1861 – 1922) was an Irish writer. She lived during the Victorian era, a time when Queen Victoria ruled. Agnes often worked with her sisters and her husband, Egerton Castle. Many of the stories she helped write were later turned into popular plays and movies.

Agnes Castle's Early Life and Family
Agnes Mary Frances Sweetman was born in County Dublin, Ireland. Her father was Michael James Sweetman. He was a respected person in their community. Her mother was Mary Margaret Powell.
Agnes was the youngest of four sisters. She also had two brothers. Her family was well-known and had lived in Ireland for a long time.
Moving to Brussels and Summer Travels
When Agnes was very young, her father passed away. In 1873, her family moved to Brussels, a city in Belgium. Agnes spent her summers in Switzerland, enjoying the beautiful mountains.
Her older sisters, Elinor and Mary Elizabeth, were also writers. Together, the sisters created two family magazines. These were called the "Ivy Home Magazine" and "Ivy Home Library."
Agnes Castle's Writing Career
In 1883, Agnes married Egerton Castle. They became a writing team and wrote many novels together. Agnes also wrote plays especially for children.
She wrote stories for popular magazines too. Some of these magazines included Temple Bar, Cornhill Magazine, and Macmillan. Even though she was a talented writer, her work was often less recognized than her husband's.
Her Daughter's Achievements
Agnes and Egerton had a daughter named Marie Louise Egerton Castle. Marie Louise (1885-1969) became a successful writer herself. She wrote a "History of Italian Literature." She also updated a famous translation of Dante's Divine Comedy.
