Her Life and Art

Early Life and Family

Agnes Freda Herschell was born in 1881 in a town called Weybridge. This town is in Surrey, England. Her father was Lord Herschell. He held very important legal jobs in Britain. He was first the Solicitor-General. Later, he became the Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain. These roles meant he was a top legal advisor to the government. Agnes likely studied art in other countries.

In 1912, Agnes married Sir Archibald Williamson. He was a well-known politician and businessman. He later became known as Lord Forres.

Becoming a Sculptor

Agnes Forres spent three years learning from a famous sculptor. His name was Charles Sargeant Jagger. This was during the 1920s. She started as a student in his studio. Then, she became his assistant. This means she helped him with his art projects.

Showing Her Work

Agnes Forres began to show her sculptures to the public. In 1926, she displayed a bronze sculpture. It was a portrait of someone's head and shoulders. She showed it at a famous art show in Paris, France. This show was called the Salon des Artistes Francais. The next year, she showed a plaster sculpture there too.

Between 1926 and 1938, Agnes Forres also showed five of her artworks. She displayed them at the Royal Academy in London. This is another very important art place in Britain.

Later Years

In 1930, Agnes Forres asked Charles Sargeant Jagger to create a special sculpture for her home. It was a relief sculpture called The Mocking Birds. A relief sculpture is carved so it sticks out from a flat surface. When Jagger passed away, Agnes helped organize a special art show. This show honored his work in 1935.

During World War II, Agnes Forres helped people in need. She worked with different relief groups. She sadly passed away in May 1942.
