Agnes Simon was an amazing international table tennis player. She was born Agnes Almási in Budapest, Hungary on June 21, 1935. Agnes became a champion who played for several countries. She passed away on August 19, 2020.

A Journey Across Countries

After a big event in her home country, Hungary, in 1956, Agnes and her husband, Béla Simon, moved to Sweden. They were looking for a new place to live. They were welcomed in the Netherlands first. Later, they moved to West Germany. Because of these moves, Agnes played table tennis for different countries. She played for the Netherlands in 1959 and 1960. From 1962 onwards, she played for West Germany.

Her Amazing Table Tennis Career

Agnes Simon was a very successful table tennis player. She won many medals between 1953 and 1976. These medals were for singles, doubles, and team events. She competed in both the Table Tennis European Championships and the World Table Tennis Championships.

World Championship Success

Agnes won three medals at the World Championships. One of her biggest wins was a gold medal. She won this in the doubles event in 1957. Her partner for this victory was Lívia Mossóczy. She also earned a silver medal in 1954 and a bronze medal in 1953. These were both in the team events.

European Championship Wins

Agnes also had great success at the European Championships. She won a gold medal in 1962 for singles. In the same year, she won another gold medal with her team. She also earned two silver medals in 1962 for doubles and mixed doubles. Later, she won a gold medal with her team in 1968. Agnes also won three bronze medals in doubles events. She earned these in 1966 and 1976. She also won two silver medals in 1970 and 1972.

English Open Titles

Besides her major championship medals, Agnes also won three titles at the English Open. This shows how consistently good she was.
