A Look Back in Time
The Rule of the Khan
During the 1600s, Agror Valley was led by a powerful tribal leader from the Swati tribe. He was known as the Khan of Agror. His real name was Akund Saad-ud-din. He was a mullah, which means he was a respected Muslim religious scholar. Over time, he gained the trust and support of the local people in the valley.
Akund Saad-ud-din became the local 'Khan', or chieftain, and took control of the entire valley. His main base, or capital, was in Oghi town. He led the people and managed the affairs of Agror for many years.
British Influence
Later, in 1888, during the time of the British Empire in India, the Khan's descendant, Ali Gohar, was removed from power. The British formally ended the title and the estate that came with it. Even though the official title was abolished, the descendants of Akund Saad-ud-din still use this special name as a sign of their family's history and respect.
