Agua Mineral Salus is a popular brand of mineral water from Uruguay. It's made by a company called Salus SA. The water comes from a special mineral spring in the Lavalleja Department. The factory is right next to this spring. It's about 110 kilometers (68 miles) northeast of Montevideo. It's also 10 kilometers (6 miles) west of Minas.

The Puma Legend and Salus Park

At the mineral springs, Salus has created a fun place called Parque Salus. This park is open to visitors. It has a beautiful forest area and the factory buildings. Many schools visit the park for educational trips.

The park's logo is a puma. This comes from an old local story. The legend says a puma used to drink from this very spring. People believed the puma was the protector of the spring. When humans arrived, the puma disappeared. It left the job of protecting the spring to the people.

Visiting the Spring

Visitors can go inside the cave where the spring is. There, they can drink cups of the fresh spring water. The legend says that drinking this water gives you the strength and energy of the puma!

A Look Back: Salus History

Salus has been around for a long time. In the past, Salus also made a beer brand called Cerveza Patricia.

New Owners

In October 2000, two big companies bought Salus. These were Danone and Ambev. Danone took over the mineral water part of the business. Ambev took over the beer part.

Focusing on Water

After this, Danone decided to focus on water. They stopped making some other drinks. Now, Salus mainly produces still and fizzy mineral water. They also make soft drinks with different flavors.

Bottles and Exports

Before 2000, Salus only used glass bottles. Now, they mostly use plastic bottles. You can find them in different sizes, like 500 mL, 1.5, 2.25, and 5 liters. They still use some glass bottles too. Salus water is very popular in Uruguay. They also send their water to Brazil. In Brazil, it's sold under the name Fuente del Puma.

What's Inside Salus Water?

Salus mineral water is known for having lots of good minerals. It also has a low amount of sodium. In 2008, a lab called the Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay tested the water. They found that it has 152 milligrams of dry residue per liter. This means it has many natural minerals.
