The Puma Logo and Its Story
At the site of the mineral springs, Salus has created a special place called Parque Salus. This is a park that visitors can explore. It has a forest area and the factory buildings. Many schools visit the park to learn about the water.
The park's logo is a puma. This comes from an old local story. The legend says a puma used to drink from this very spring. People believed the puma was the protector of the spring. When humans arrived, the puma disappeared. It left the job of protecting the spring to the people.
Visitors to the park can go inside the spring's cave. There, they can drink cups of the fresh water. It is said that drinking from the spring gives you the strength and energy of the puma!
A Look at Salus History
For a long time, Salus made more than just water. They also produced a popular beer brand called Cerveza Patricia.
In October 2000, two big companies bought Salus. These were Danone and Ambev. Danone took over the mineral water part of the business. Ambev took control of the beer brand. After this, Danone stopped making some of the old Salus products. They decided to focus on making still and fizzy (carbonated) water. They also started making soft drinks with different flavors.
Before 2000, Salus only used glass bottles for its water. After the change, they started using mostly plastic bottles. These plastic bottles come in different sizes, like 500 mL, 1.5 liters, 2.25 liters, and 5 liters. They still use some glass bottles too, in 500 mL and 1 liter sizes.
Salus water is very popular in Uruguay. It sells a lot of water in the local market. The company also sends its water to Brazil. In Brazil, it is sold under the name Fuente del Puma, which means "Puma's Spring."
