Aguilares is a lively city located in the southern part of the Tucumán Province in Argentina. It's the biggest town in the Río Chico Department and also where the main government offices for the department are located.
The city is about 85 kilometers (53 miles) south of San Miguel de Tucumán. That's the capital city of the province. Aguilares stretches along a main road called Route 38. It's found between the Medinas River to the north and the Barrientos Creek to the south.
Just like many other cities in Argentina, Aguilares has lots of plazas and parks. These are great places where people gather to enjoy mate, a traditional Argentine drink. In the main plaza, you'll find a beautiful church. This church faces west and is a central part of the plaza. All around the plaza, there are many small shops and cozy cafes. During special holidays or big events, these plazas become the heart of the city's celebrations and fairs.
History of Aguilares
The city of Aguilares was officially started in 1888. It was founded by Governor Lídoro Quinteros. Since then, it has grown into an important center.
What Makes the City Grow?
Aguilares has a strong economy thanks to a few key industries. Two important sugar mills, named Aguilares and Santa Bárbara, are located here. There's also a large factory called Alpargatas SAIC, which makes footwear.
Besides these factories, the area around Aguilares is very good for farming. All these activities together form the main parts of the city's economy. They provide many jobs and help the city thrive.
