Ahuas (pronounced AH-wahs) is a special type of town called a municipality in Honduras. It is located in the Gracias a Dios department, which is like a state or province in Honduras.
Ahuas is also home to the Ahuas Airport, which helps people travel to and from this area.

People and Population
In 2013, a count of all the people, called a census, showed that about 8,095 people lived in Ahuas. Most of the people living here are Indigenous, meaning they are the original people of this land.
Different Groups of People
About 94% of the people in Ahuas are Miskito. The Miskito are a large Indigenous group in this part of Central America. There are also smaller groups of people, including about 5% who are Mestizo (a mix of European and Indigenous backgrounds) and a small number of Afro-Honduran or Black and White people.
